The New York State Office of National and Community Service - New Yorkers Volunteer
– is seeking a consultant to provide Volunteer Management Training to its ten Regional
Volunteer Centers starting in April 2012. During the initial year of operation,
the consultant will be expected to: Develop/provide a regional volunteer management
train-the-trainer curriculum that includes tool/resource templates that can be localized
by Regional Volunteer Centers to help local non-profits recruit, train, manage and
retain volunteers based on the needs/resources of the organization; curriculum must
include extensive coverage of the following: Understanding Volunteering; Planning
a Volunteer Program; Recruiting and Placing Volunteers; Orienting and Training Volunteers;
Supervising Volunteers; Increasing the opportunities for and participation of skill-based
volunteers; Evaluating a Volunteer Program. Must be presented in a train-the-trainer
environment; Curriculum must be culturally sensitive and able to address potential
bilingual needs. Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in marketing
and resource development for non-profits and data collection. demonstrating the
impact of volunteer programs.
Successful applicants will:
- Deliver training designed to strengthen the capacity of Regional Volunteer Centers
to serve non-profit agencies in their respective regions and more strategically
engage national service programs and volunteer resources as a solution to critical
local problems.
- Be available for a first meeting in early April to establish a baseline with Regional
Volunteer Centers, review data collected by Siena Research Institute and develop
a plan to move forward with curriculum development/implementation.
- Provide a time-line for development of Regional Volunteer Centers staff during the
twelve-month period of this contract.
- Provide technical assistance throughout the year to encourage mastery of the material
and sustainability of the efforts.
- Provide curriculum that is sensitive to the fact that Regional Volunteer centers
are at various stages of development and represent various areas of the state -
urban, suburban and rural. Support will be provided to move each center to the next
level.
