The New York State Commission on National & Community Service is thrilled you are
considering our state as an operating site for your National Direct AmeriCorps Program!
As you are aware, a new requirement contained in the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America
Act now requires all national, multi-state AmeriCorps applicants to consult with
the State Service Commission in the state where they propose to place AmeriCorps
members.
Last year a working group of AmeriCorps State and National leadership developed
a template Consultation Form for all National Direct applicants to complete. Given
the varying number of National Direct AmeriCorps applicants that intend to place
members in service within a state, each State Commission will interpret the level
of consultation differently.
The New York Commission believes that this process is a valuable opportunity for
us to (1) better understand the full portfolio of national service programs operating
in our state, (2) help to promote awareness of and participation in all national
service programs, and (3) leverage resources, experiences, and cross-stream training
opportunities to benefit New York’s national service programs and their members.
To begin the process, please click here to download and complete the AmeriCorps
National Consultation Form template and submit it to the New York State Commission
Office via email at
NewYorkersVolunteer@NewYorkersVolunteer.ny.gov or fax to (518) 402-3817.
We will confirm receipt of your completed template and may contact your organization
for additional information or to schedule a formal meeting if necessary. At this
time, we are not requiring all National Direct applicants to have an in-person meeting
with our State Commission. If you have any questions or would like to discuss this
process further, please contact our office at (518) 473-8882.
Good luck with your AmeriCorps proposal and we look forward to the opportunity to partner with you here in New York State!
